Just when You Think You’re Finished, You Haven’t Even Started!

Marketing Your First Book

Your eBook Marketing Needs

Everyone has different needs.  If your book is technical or computer-related it makes sense to promote the book as an eBook.  The options on the internet are endless, and it’s wise to develop a marketing road map as you post your book for sale.

If your dream-come-true is to have your book hardcopy published, you can still test your book as an eBook before it’s physically published.

All of these options can become quite time-consuming and confusing as you will need to keep track of three different types of formatting.

· Your original book in Microsoft Word.

· Your eBook in PDF

· Your reformatted book for publishers.

I chose to test my book first, by creating a review copy in Microsoft Word.  Next, I converted the book to PDF format and unveil the book on my website.  By creating a blog, I wanted to get my reader’s opinions about the book and made final changes before I submitted it to a self-publishing agent to be physically printed.  There are many  print-on-demand companies available for you to chose from.  Meanwhile, behind the scenes, I started to market my book before it was ever published.

Regardless of the methods you chose for your book, a professional website, describing your book is paramount.  Announce your book by giving your readers reviews, allowing them to read the Foreword, the Synopsis and possibly a few sneak peaks.  Your book’s website can include a link to your blog which will allow you to communicate with your buyers

Also, be prepared to email potential customers, groups, and interested parties anything you do to promote your book.  Notify your contacts when your website is complete.  Write press releases when your book is reviewed.  Stay in touch with a network of people who may purchase your book, or forward information about your book to others.

Two of my most recent clients wrote books about business services and products, therefore did not have the time to devote to getting it published.

Internet Search Engine Optimization eBook

Ken Sproul had all of the marketing savy one could need, and immediately created websites for his book, and a blog.  He periodically emails newsletters about his book and keeps his current clients up-to-date with information.  He also submitted press releases to major online directories and publications.

At first Ken self-sold his book on his own website in a downloadable PDF.  One year later, we were ready to have it published on-demand in hardcopy format.  It was then that we decided we would announce it by designing a video, and publishing the video on YouTube.  The video brought new traffic to his website that otherwise, may have never found him.  You can view the video by double-clicking on the play button.

Self-Defense Products and Non-Lethal Weapons

Jack Krohn, a self-defense and home security consultant and salesperson had a collection of reports and articles he had written over the years.  He is the most published consultant in the country with regard to home security.  We organized all of his data and created four separate self-defense reports.

Now what?

Jack included all of the information on his website, and emailed his new eBooks to his client base, but we needed to reach a broader audience.  We decided to design a series of videos and publish them on YouTube to increase awareness and introduce a host of self-defense options for people who may have never known those options existed.  The results were quite favorable.

What Can I do to Help You?

Immediately, after I finish an eBook for my clients, I post the eBook on one of my websites.  If I design a video introducing the eBook, I immediately help broadcast the video to increase the book’s audience.  This not only attracts prospective customers, but also introduces your new book to my existing clients.  All of my clients and their eBooks are showcased on my parent website, GiseleVeilleux.com, and on my YouTube account.  By utilizing my internal marketing structure, your work will automatically be showcased.

You must wear many hats to be a first time author, especially if you’re on a tight budget.  You may find that you need eBook Support.

Here are a list of questions you should ask yourself:

I want to write a book, but where do I start?  How will I market my eBook?  How will I design my website introducing my eBook?  How will the search engines find my new book?  Can I optimize my website so Google searchers will find it?  What is a resellers submission?  How much money can I expect to make on an eBook?  Can I sell an eBook in PDF and hardcopy format?  What is Mobilpocket Creator software?  Can I sell my book on Amazon without converting it to Mobilepocket Creator?  How do I convert my Word document to PDF?  How much does it cost to have my book cover designed?  Where can I find a cover designer?  Can I design my book’s cover myself?  How much does it cost for someone to edit my book for me?  Do I need a ghost writer?  Is my book a technical manual?  What’s the difference between a technical book and a how-to book?  Where can I find a technical writer?  Should I hire a technical writer?  Who can create a table of contents for me?  How do I format my book for double-sided printing?  How do I create odd and even headers and footers in my book?  How much does an ISBN Number cost?  How do I get my book Copyright protected?  How much does it cost to copyright my book?  Do I have to copyright my book?  How do I market my book once it’s published?

There is no technology that can make you a great writer.

Technology itself changes too quickly for any busy person to keep up with.

Software doesn’t solve your challenges… people do.

Books are written by story tellers.

Story tellers are people.

If the human factor is not lost, any book can find its audience and be enjoyed.
